Camping for Trevor and Brandon

Trevor had a great scout camp this year. He loves having his dad as a leader. They went to Camp Dietler this year. The difference from last year is that they had to prepare all of their own food instead of going to the cafeteria. The food was provided but they did the cooking and cleaning. I was impressed that Trevor really enjoyed that and even did a lot of cooking when he came home. He even learned how to make lasagna in a dutch oven!! Seeing as though Brandon has a Foods class in High School I think that both of them will each have a night for making dinner!

Anyhow, the whole group had a great time and got along well. They did canoe, rifle, and metalwork. There may be more I cant remember. Christen and I came up for the family night and the boys did a skit and told us all that they had been learning.

Brandon pictures-------

Brandon and his group were totally thrilled to prepare and go on their Eco-Challenge High Adventure Trip. The activities included river rafting - a first for Brandon - hiking a 14er, biking, rapelling. Everyone was safe and had a great time!! They were so excited to do something bigger and better than regular camping trips. Also recently this group went water skiing and tubing. This was also a first for Brandon. It was awesome -- except that the waterskiis were too small for Brandon's size 13 feet!!!! I felt so bad for him!! Tyler's feet were also too wide. Poor Guys! I guess he did try the lake board a bit and he loved the tubing.

Day Camp 2010

Day Camp. . . . I remember when I thought that I was done years ago. But, alas, someone needs to register the 386 kids - or whatever it was for day camp. And as long as Im in Stk Primary - that is part of the job - well unless we figure out something different next year.

It is always such a crazy, busy time in June to get ready but it went really well. We also had a lot of support and had a great team. The boys loved it too. This year Brandon and his friend Chritian came to be Jr Staff and they each earned 18 hrs for HS volunteer time. Trevor also came one day and helped in the shooting range. He let people in and out . . . Permission to enter exit etc. . .

Eagle Recognition Dinner

Brandon and I had a fun evening together last week. The big dilemma for him was which of the 3 forks to use first! Thats my eagle scout boy!

This was also the first time Brandon had helped to present awards to the other boys and conduct. He received a bunch of merit badges too. Great job boys!

Trevors 11 yr old camp

This is a bit old but I realized that I never posted about Trevors 11 yr old camp just after his bday. It was right after I finished with Day Camp. I went straight up the next day to be with Shanna, the Stk Primary Pres I work with. She was such a big help to me that I wanted to be there for her. It was a great camp! The only little issue was that there was a tornado warning that Friday night so they were not able to actually spend the night. Trevor was DEVESTATED!! However, they did go back early the next morning and resumed their classes. It really was well organized!

Brandon's Eagle Scout Project

And . . .it's over! Now for the write up. Anyhow, it was a big success. His project was providing a teen book event at our local library revolving around the book The Lost Years Of Merlin. He and his team advertised, got donations for prizes at various bussinesses and ward members, decorated and set up, had a scavenger hunt and a trivia game set up, provided prizes and food. It was great! - and he learned a lot. We are proud of him!! Thanks for the all of your help and support!!

Young Eagles

A few weeks ago the Boy Scouts had a really cool activity. They had been earning their Aviation merit badge because one of the new leaders works at a smaller local airport. To culminate the experience the kids got to go to an air show!! There was a WWII B17 that they got to tour, flight simulators, and also the Young Eagles program. It was too windy to fly the Saturday we were there but they told us to come back on Monday - with parents -- and they could actually fly in a small plane as the copilot!!

This was especially cool because my kids always feel so shafted because they have only been in a commercial plane as small babies (when they were free) --So this was the big chance for them!! It was free and a pilot gave them a short training and off they went into the wild blue yonder. The smiles on their faces were priceless!! The lady helping commented that I had earned some big mom bonus points with them. Anyway, it was totally worth it! You will have to look for the program in an area near you. They got a log book too and can go up anytime the program comes back. The pilot even reminded the kidsto get great grades - good for the middle child who plans to go to the Air Force Academy. We'll see . . .

Boy Scouts Camping Devils Head and Twin Lakes

Lots of camping going along here. These pictures are from 2 different trips. this past weekend they were supposed to hike Mt Elbert but it was too snowy. They had a great time fishing and canoeing though.

Wrapping up the school year for Trevor

Trevor had a good year in band and learned a lot from his new band teacher who also plays the trombone.ght that Mr L was really cool because besides playing the trombone and 4 other instruments he at one time lived in Hollywood and was actually one of the monster/ creatures in the "Thriller" video and he also was the voice for Kermit the Frog for a few years. Anyhow, the band played at the graduation march for the school's 8th grade. It really sounded great! I will post a video later.

Trevor and his friend Carson earned their Arrow of Light awards together at his last pack meeting. I cant believe he is finished with Cubs. And I thought I was but not with my calling - the joke is on me!! Anyhow Trevor is excited for 11 yr old scouts and all that it brings. We are so grateful to have wonderful leaders!

Trevors last official field day as a paticipant. Next year he will help to run the show.

The 5th graders got to go bowling and go to the movie "Earth"
I was a chaperone.

Trevor's last Blue and Gold

We had a great ham dinner for our ward Blue and Gold dinner. This is the 1st time in MANY years that I did not have to set up. It was nice to sit back and be a parent. The boys even served the parents dinner!

Trevor's Busy Night

Last night Trevor had a band concert. He did a great job. His new band director plays the trombone so that is very cool for Trevor. As soon as that was over we raced over to the church for Trevor's last Pinewood Derby. He worked really hard on the car and he got some great tips from our home teacher. Good enough tips I guess to have him win 1st place out of all of the Webelos and went on to the final. I think he got 3rd or 4th in that. I had to leave to go to the stk center for a meeting so I didnt catch the results. On our way to the church Trevor said that we need to have another brother so that we can go to more Pinewood Derbies. I told him he would have to wait for his own kids. By the way his car was shaped like a Subway sandwich --$5 footlong! Everyone else went for the traditional racecar. Where is their creativity?

Trevor gets more pins

This past Wed Trevor got several more pins for his Webelos colors. It was pack meeting --and I wasnt even there early to set up! Actually, the 14 and 15 yr old YM put on a fun olympics activity for the boys and girls of the ward. It was pretty fun.

Brandon is a Star!!

Last night Brandon and his Scout group had a Court of Honor. Brandon is a Star Scout now and in 3 months will be a Life Scout. He has 17 merit badges and got a bunch of other patches from scout camp. - - 2 being the 14er patch (climbing Mt Sherman) and the Polar Penguin (for jumping in the lake ever morning at 6 AM at camp) I just sewed all of those little buggars on his sash today! He is doing so well and we are very proud of all he has accomplished and his leadership skills along the way. He has recently been called to be the Deacons Quorum president as well. He is taking it very responsibly. Thank you to AWESOME scout leaders and Young Mens Leaders!
Before we know it we will be working on his Eagle project! - Hopefully next summer and before he starts High School Band activities.

Their First 14er!

A few weeks ago Brandon and his scout group and Todd and Trevor climbed Mt. Sherman. Todd has been wanting to climb a 14er for a long time so he want about to pass up a chance to volunteer as a dad helper. They had a great time and made it just fine. Brandon and Trevor were troopers getting up. I will have to get Todd to fill in some of the details. Anyhow, it was a success!

Last Cub Master Night

Cari saying thanks
I wanted this picture because there is a picture of my Grandma and uncle with them posing in a salute just the same. I will have to find it and post it next to this.
This picture was originally of Trevor and me, but the "me" part looked really bad!! -- So here he is --Webelos extrordinaire!! Trevor doesnt always smile for pics so I really like this of him.

This past Wednesday was my last pack Meeting as Cub Master. I got a new calling and was sustained this past Sunday that will keep me associated with the scouting program but not as directly. I may not ever get out of Primary! I think it must be stamped on my forehead! Anyhow, in some amazing twist of fate the Stake has asked me to be the 1st Counselor in the Stk Primary. Thank you to many of you local readers who have already supported me in this endeavor! I was and am a little overwhelmed but I have a wonderful President and 2nd Counselor to work with as well as the board. I hope to be set apart tomorrow. So - wish me luck. It will start getting very busy very fast with ward conferences, Stake Aux. training, Stk Achievement Day Girls Day conference, Primary Sacrament Programs, Etc Etc. The kicker was that I thought I was DONE with Day Camp - but the Stk Primary usually helps with registration. Oh Well!

I think I will miss the cubmaster thing - a little - maybe--although it will be interesting to sit in the audience as a parent. Trevor will be in there until late June. He actually received quite a few Webelos pins on Wed. He has been working hard this summer when we went on all of our camping trips. Great job Trevor!

Cubs in the Parade

Our Pack was invited to join in on the parade this past Saturday. We had 12 boys and it was really fun. --A bit warm but it was a great experience for the kids. Some of the boys were holding a huge American flag and the others were tossing candy and pulling the pack wagon that Trevor and Josh help me with. I cant think of a time where I have actually been in a parade - (nope -I was never a rodeo queen or anything ha ha) so that was fun to do. Brandon and Todd were a huge help to me being there and supporting so much.
