Calamari anyone?

So, I have never even had Calamari - nor do I know how to spell it. It is likely that I will never even try it after Brandon's science class were busy again dissecting more sea creatures. Friday was a squid and Wednesday, a shark. The teacher emailed me to say that Brandon wanted to bring an extra squid home -- whatever-- unfortunately he forgotten to bring home extra gloves!! Luckily, boy scout Brandon had some extras in his new first aid supplies!! Let's see - I learned that a squid has multiple hearts, swims backwards and is much stinkier than a starfish!

This week's news

Todd and the boys are camping last night and today with the boy scouts. Christen had her friends, Sydney and Lauren come over to spend the night here. They are pretty cute together and having our dogs around are quite the novelty for them. Good thing the dogs are quite patient! I'm not sure the visiting girls appreciated me holding off on breakfast until I felt that I had slept in at bit - Hey - it is Sat morning and they were up at 7AM!!!

This past Monday there was a house fire in our subdivision. One house is totally destroyed and the next house partially. It is so devastating and kind of freaked me out. I was thinking about the fire my parents had before I was born and the fire at my grandparents house. Those of you who have moved from here it was on Decatur. 9 news had a big article about it if you want more info on it. Our ward has been helping and donating all sorts of thing and this weekend the community is having a fundraising BBQ.
There also was a death of a husband of one of our school aides. She has been with the school for 12 yrs. A few of you know her - Brenda - (Julie - the one whose daughter bought your first house.) So sad. But, here again, the community is rallying around to support and do a special fundraiser for the family next weekend.

District Pinewood Derby

We signed Trevor up for the District Pinewood Derby because his car did relatively well at out pack derby. It was today and Christen came with Trevor and I down to the fairgrounds. (Todd and Brandon were busy Aerating for the boy scout camp fundraiser) It was pretty fun. They had a car show and stuff to look at and buy and get for free. We actually got free tickets to see the new Speed Racer movie. There was a Tae Kwon Do demo and Trevor and Christen both broke a board. -Of course they want to lure you in to take lessons. Been there done that with another school fundraiser. anyhow, Trevor did not place but he did get the "Do Your Best" award. Im not sure what that means in this case but it was fun. As it turns out for that trevor got a month's worth of free Tae Kwon Do. Im not sure we will do that again, but it was nice to get something. We will definately go see Speed Racer though! There was one other cub from our pack - Branigan, who was there too.

Book 'em Danno

Our bear cub scout group had an awesome field trip last night to a near by police station. We have a friend in another ward who is a police officer who was good enough to show us around. It was our bear leaders who actually got everything organized. The boys LOVED it! They learned how to fingerprint, how to lift prints from a cup, see the holding cell, the car lights and sounds, the police dog, how a tasor gun works (on a poster), why not to be a "dirtbag' when you grow up, and the importance of knowing how to describe the dirtbags if needed. It was really cool.

Ward Aloha Party

Last weekend we had a great party to thank our old bishopric and welcome in the new bishopric. We had a great time visiting with friends and having a nice dinner. We also saw some unexpected hula dancing talent!

Farewell Grandma and Kay

This is a little late but we got Grandma and Kay off on the Air Ambulance just fine. That is kind of a once in a lifetime way to travel back to Idaho. Luckily, it was mostly paid for by United Airlines - no fault settlement. We really miss them both but we know they are happy to be home now. Keep getting better grandma! We have been playing Skipbo in your honor! Thanks Kay for everything and thank you Dian for all that you do for Grandma now!!

Toothless

Christen recently lost another tooth. Funny how she hasnt lost the 2 on the top. Just three on the bottom. I hate when loose teeth just dangle so she and I were ready with the dental floss to get it out when she thought it was ready. As it turned out my first try was unsuccessful so with much prodding we even had Aunt Kay help get it out. When I found the tooth holder that goes under the pillow, low and behold it was still occupied by a previous owner. Luckily, I caught it first!
